“How to fix an apartment key fob?” This is a question many people ask when their key fob suddenly stops working. The good news is that there are usually only a few reasons why an apartment key fob won’t work, and we’ll explore them in today’s blog post.
The two main reasons why a key fob might not work are a damaged chip and programming issues. If you’re interested in learning more about these problems, check out our article “Reasons Why Your Apartment Key Fob Is Not Working”. Additionally, another reason your fob might stop working, which we didn’t cover in the previous article, is that your building management may have deactivated or disabled your fob. If that’s the case, you’ll need to speak with them directly.
How to Fix an Apartment Key Fob?
When it comes to how to fix an apartment key fob, the best course of action is to go to your building management and ask for a replacement. However, we understand that building management might not always be quick to respond. If you need a faster solution and have a partner or roommate with a working fob, we can copy their fob for you, giving you immediate access.
It’s important to note that we do not fix key fobs and cannot modify the information on your existing fob. For example, if your fob works for both the entrance and the elevator, the copy we make will also work for the entrance and elevator—no modifications can be made. Our primary service is copying from a working fob to create an identical one. Therefore, if your fob stops working due to any of the issues mentioned above, we can’t reactivate it for you. In such cases, you’ll need to talk to your building management or consider using a roommate’s or neighbor’s working fob and visiting one of our stores to get a copy.

So, how to fix an apartment key fob? The simplest solution is to request a replacement from your building management. If you’re in a hurry and have access to a working fob from someone else, we can help by making a copy for you. However, remember that we cannot fix or modify non-working fobs*. We invite you to visit any of our stores for assistance and encourage you to check out our other blog posts to stay informed about key fob issues and solutions.
*However, if your building has updated the coding and you’ve been issued a new fob, or if you have a copy from another building, we may be able to rewrite the copy we made for you. We can check if the frequencies match between the original and the copy, and if they do, we can update the copy accordingly.
