Key fobs are essential for accessing residential and commercial spaces securely. However, situations may arise where deactivating a key fob becomes necessary. Here, we’ll explore when and how key fobs can be deactivated, ensuring the security of your property and peace of mind.

1. Lost Key Fob

If you’ve lost your key fob, it’s crucial to act swiftly. Inform your condo management immediately. They can remotely deactivate the lost fob to prevent unauthorized access, prioritizing your security.

2. Tenant Moves Out

When a tenant vacates your apartment, you might no longer require their key fob. Return the fob to your condo management, and they can deactivate it for you. It’s an efficient way to maintain control over access to your property.

3. Tenant Non-Payment and Eviction

It’s important to note that you cannot deactivate a tenant’s fob (or keys) solely due to non-payment of rent. To take this step, you’ll need a court-ordered eviction. This ensures a legal process is followed for deactivating access.

Regarding Fob Copies from MiniFob

MiniFob offers convenient fob copying services, allowing you to have spare key fobs. However, these copies cannot be remotely deactivated by your condo management. If you ever need to deactivate a fob you copied from us, simply return it to our store, and we’ll assist you in the deactivation process. Please keep in mind:

  • Returns made within 30 days are eligible for a refund, but after that period, refunds are not guaranteed.
  • Some fob copies can be reactivated for a small fee, but this is not guaranteed.
  • If the original fob is deactivated by your building management, any copies made from it will also be deactivated.
